The GentleMax Pro® photofacial targets sun damage, age spots and freckles by pulsing light based energy into the unwanted pigment.

This causes the temperature of the unwanted pigment to rise which helps to break up the pigment. Photofacials can also be used to diffuse facial redness.

  • A Photofacial uses light based energy to lighten freckles, irregular pigmentation and light brown spots caused by mild sun damage or diffuse facial redness and capillaries. Depending on what we are targeting an Alexandrite or nd: YAG laser will be used for the treatment. Unlike IPL we can only focus on pigment or diffused redness in one treatment.

  • You are a good candidate for a photofacial if you want to address concerns with sun damage, redness, or uneven tone (like age spots, freckles, rosacea, broken capillaries), and realistic expectations for mild to moderate improvements in texture and pigmentation. You cannot have freshly tanned skin. Active infections, open wounds, or specific medical conditions can be contraindications.

  • A photofacial targeting pigmentation takes about 20-30 minutes. Diffused redness Photofacials take approximately 45 minutes per treatment.

  • When targeting pigment in the skin it is rare to have full success with one treatment. On average it takes about 2-4 Photofacials to see a good clearance. When treating diffused redness it takes about 3-5 Photofacials. Results vary based on a number of factors such as lifestyle, age, and cause.

  • We do not use any numbing for Photofacials.

  • When treating pigmentation, the clinical endpoint is 1-2 shades darker on the pigmented lesions. These will continue to darken post-treatment. You might have a “peppering” effect to the treated pigmented spot, which will then slough off the skin within about 7 days. If the pigment does not slough off the skin, it will lighten over a 4 week period, which then indicates another treatment will be required.

For diffused redness photofacials, you will have a flushed look to your skin for about 24 hours, after which you should start to notice the redness lighten. If we are treating capillaries on the face, there may be some slight bruising and inflammation.

It is important to wear your sunscreen post treatment to allow the skin to heal and for longer lasting results.

  • You can return to your regular skincare routine post-treatment unless otherwise directed by your provider.
